Seniors lead Herons in exhibition vs. RIT

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith seniors Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou and Kyesha Talerico combined for 30 points and 20 rebounds, but RIT eked out a double overtime victory in an exhibition basketball game played in Bristol Gymnasium tonight.

An exciting back-and-forth contest, the Herons forced the first and second overtime sessions at the free throw line. RIT pulled out the win by scoring the final seven points of the game for a 74-71 win.

Dimitrakopoulou finished with team-highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Talerico narrowly missed a double-double of her own, contributing 12 points and nine boards. Junior Olivia Parisi chipped in 14 points and sophomore Lauren DeVaney notched 10 points. Junior Christina Mitrow handed out a game-high eight assists.

Emma Waite scored a game-high 22 points off the bench for the Tigers. Kaleesha Joseph corralled a game-high 19 rebounds to go with nine points and two blocked shots.

In the second quarter, Talerico scored the opening and closing buckets in a 6-0 Heron run that gave the home team the largest lead of the game for either team, 30-22. RIT closed the half on a 6-2 run to go into the break trailing by four.

The Tigers briefly reclaimed the lead late in the third quarter, but sophomore Kerstin Kelly drained a 3-pointer, giving the Herons a 51-50 lead going into the fourth quarter.

RIT pushed back into the lead, seizing a 62-58 lead with four minutes to go, but DeVaney made two free throws at the 3:55 mark and Parisi tied with just over a minute to go. 

In overtime, Sarah Henretta made a three to give the Tigers a 67-64 lead. Mitrow made 1-of-2 at the line followed by two makes at the line by DeVaney with 17 seconds left necessitating another OT.
