#2 Herons host Rochester, Arcadia for weekend set

The William Smith College soccer team kicks off a run of four games in seven days this weekend, Sept. 11-12, when it welcomes Rochester and Arcadia to Cozzens Field. Saturday's game against the Yellowjackets is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and Sunday's game against the Knights will kick off at 2 p.m.
 
The Herons, who were ranked second in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, are 1-1-0 to start the season. They opened the 2021 campaign with a 10-0 win over Oneonta on Sept. 1. Forward Julia Keogh matched a William Smith record with eight points (3g, 2a) in the season-opening win. The Herons were edged by top-ranked Messiah 4-2 on Saturday, Sept. 4.
 
Through two games, Keogh leads the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Forward Sheila McQuillen leads the team with three helpers. Her five points are tied for second on the team with midfielder Amanda Adams. Eleven different Herons have recorded at least one point to begin the season.
 
Amanda Kesler has played a majority of the minutes in goal for William Smith. She is 1-1-0 with a 2.34 goals against average and a 0.429 save percentage.
 
Rochester is 1-1-0 to start the season. The Yellowjackets were edged by No. 23 Geneseo 3-1 to open the season. They bounced back with a 3-0 win over Nazareth on Monday. Rochester is led by Claire Grover who has three points on a goal and an assist. Emma Schechter has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 1-1-0 with a 1.50 GAA and a .750 save percentage.
 
Saturday's game will be the 48th meeting all-time between the Herons and the Yellowjackets. William Smith leads the series 24-17-6, including a 13-8-1 record in Geneva. The Herons are looking to snap a two-game losing streak to the Yellowjackets.
 
Arcadia, which was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, enters the weekend with a 2-1-0 record and is coming off a 1-0 win over Ursinus on Thursday night. The Knights are led offensively by Kira Bochard's four goals and eight points. Gabby Green and Julia Mendez have split time in goal. Green is 1-1-0 with a 0.67 GAA and a .500 save percentage. Mendez is 1-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA and a .750 save percentage.
 
Sunday's game will be the first meeting on the soccer pitch between William Smith and Arcadia.
 
Admission to William Smith soccer games is free. Fans are asked to monitor their health and to stay home if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Properly fitting masks that cover the mouth and nose are required in indoor spaces on campus (including restrooms) and in crowded outdoor settings.
