Herons move up to #7 ahead of league opener

Tomorrow's game will be the 43rd meeting between the teams

The William Smith College soccer team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll as it kicks off Liberty League play this week. Tomorrow, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m., the Herons will make a short trip down the Thruway to take on RIT, which is receiving votes in this week's poll.
 
William Smith is 4-1-1 overall this season and is coming off a pair of shutout wins over Alfred and Geneseo last week. The Herons enter the weekend among the nation's best in several offensive categories. William Smith is second in the nation in total assists (24), third in assists per game (4.00), seventh in total points (74), 10th in points per game (12.33), 12th in scoring offense (4.17 gpg) and 13th in total goals (25).
 
Individually, William Smith is led by Julia Keogh's six goals and 16 points. Sheila McQuillen has a team-best five assists. Keogh's 16 points lead the Liberty League and are 16th in the nation. McQuillen is eighth in the nation in assists. Keogh's four assists are ranked 16th nationally.
 
Kirsten Nelson and Amanda Kesler have split time in goal this season. Nelson is 3-0-1 with a 0.28 goals against average and an .889 save percentage. Kesler is 1-1-0 with a 1.48 GAA and a .556 save percentage.
 
RIT is 4-1-0 and is coming off a 5-2 win over Brockport on Saturday. The Tigers are led by Christine Cataldo-Smith's seven goals and 16 points. She is 13th in the nation in goals and tied with Keogh for 16th in points. Cataldo-Smith is tied for the team lead with Courtney McHale with two assists.
 
Darcie Jones has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 2-0-0 with a 0.00 GAA and a 1.000 save percentage. Alyssa Salls is 2-1-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .500 save percentage.
 
Tomorrow's game will be the 43rd all-time meeting between William Smith and RIT. The Herons lead the series 40-0-2 and have won 10 straight. William Smith is 19-0-1 all-time in Rochester.
 
RIT strongly recommends that all guests and visitors to campus be vaccinated against COVID-19. All invited day guests and other campus visitors are required to wear a mask when indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
