#7/8 William Smith hosts Ithaca Wednesday

The William Smith College soccer team, which is ranked in the top-10 in both the United Soccer Coaches poll and the D3soccer.com poll, will wrap up a two-game homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 29, when it welcomes Ithaca to Cozzens Field. The Herons held at No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and moved up two spots to No. 8 in the D3soccer.com poll.
 
William Smith enters the weekend with a 6-1-1 overall record and a 2-0-0 mark in Liberty League play. The Herons bring the league's top offense into the game with the Bombers. William Smith leads the league with 31 goals, averaging 3.88 goals per game. The offensive unit leads the nation in assists per game (3.75 apg), is second in total assists (30), seventh in total points (92), ninth in points per game (11.50), 10th in total goals and is 16th in scoring offense.
 
Julia Keogh leads the team with seven goals and 18 points. Seneca Blakely-Armitage is second on the team with five goals. Sheila McQuillen as a team-best five assists. She is second on the team with 13 points. McQuillen's five assists are 12th in the nation.
 
Amanda Kesler and Kirsten Nelson have split time in goal this season. Kesler is 3-1-0 with a .765 save percentage and a 0.85 goals against average. Nelson is 3-0-1 with a .808 save percentage and 0.28 GAA.
 
Ithaca brings a 6-1-0 overall record and 1-0-0 conference record into Wednesday's game. The Bombers are the conference's second-best offense, averaging 2.57 goals per game.  Alex Epifani leads Ithaca with six points on two goals and two assists. Four other Bombers are tied for the team lead with two goals each.
 
Ithaca has the league's best defense, allowing 0.57 goals per game. The defense is backstopped by Claire Reader who is 6-1-0 in goal with a 0.59 GAA and a .852 save percentage.
 
Tomorrow's game will be the 33rd all-time meeting between the Herons and the Bombers. William Smith holds a 20-8-4 edge in the series and is 11-5-1 in Geneva. The Herons have won all three matches against the Bombers since they joined the Liberty League in 2017.
 
Admission to William Smith soccer games is free. Fans are asked to monitor their health and stay home if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. Properly fitting masks that cover the mouth and nose are required in indoor spaces on campus (including restrooms) and in crowded settings.
