Herons to host Bombers, Tigers

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team will host a pair of Liberty League games in Bristol Gym this weekend. The Herons will take on Ithaca College at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 followed by a 2 p.m. tipoff against Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, Jan. 29.
 
Spectators are asked to monitor their health and stay home if experiencing any COVID symptoms. All spectators, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear properly fitting masks in Bristol Gym. Fans who cannot make the trip to Geneva can follow all the action with HWS All-Access video and Live Stats.
 
The games will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7).
 
Brooke Jarvis leads the Herons in scoring and steals, averaging 17.6 points and 1.6 steals per game. Olivia Parisi is right behind her in the scoring column, contributing 17.4 points per game as well as 8.4 rebounds per game. Lauren DeVaney adds 12.6 points per game and a team-high 10.1 rebounds per game.
 
William Smith is 4-10 overall and sits in sixth place in the conference standings with a 3-5 mark.
 
Ithaca comes to Geneva riding a league best eight-game win streak, including an 82-52 win over the Herons in Ithaca on Jan. 8. The Bombers are 13-3 overall and are a half game out of first place with an 8-1 league mark.
 
Grace Cannon leads a balanced Ithaca offense, averaging 16.3 points per game. She also paces the team on the glass at 7.6 rebounds per game. When the teams met earlier this month, Cara Volpe led four Bombers in double digits with 15 points.
 
Friday's game will be the 51st meeting between the teams with Ithaca holding a 27-23 series lead. William Smith owns a 14-10 edge in games played in Bristol Gym.
 
RIT (7-7, 4-5) sits a half game ahead of the Herons in the league standings. The game will be the 42nd game in a series that began in 1989. William Smith holds a 29-12 series lead, having won each of the past three meetings including a 70-53 decision at RIT on Jan. 7.
 
The Tigers have two players averaging more than 10 points per game. Kaleesha Joseph leads the team with 17.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Emma Walte adds 14.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and a team-high 3.1 assists.
