Hobart welcomes Union, RPI for key Liberty League weekend

The Hobart College soccer team will be back in action this weekend, Oct. 14-15, when it welcomes Union and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to Cozzens Field for a crucial weekend in the Liberty League standings. Entering the weekend, the top seven teams in the league are separated by six points.
 
The Statesmen (5-3-3, 2-1-2) will host the Dutchmen (3-6-1, 0-3-0) tomorrow, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. On Saturday Hobart will take on the Engineers (4-4-4, 2-1-1) at 2 p.m. Fans who cannot make it to Geneva can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7).
 
ABOUT THE STATESMEN:
  • Hobart is tied for third in the conference standings with eight points.
  • Nolan Fierro (2g, 3a) and Connor Koschineg (2g, 3a) are tied for the team lead with seven points each.
  • Quinn Phillips and Brian Sheehan also have two goals this season.
  • Guillermo Castaneda Chang has the edge in goalie minutes played. He is 3-2-3 with a 1.38 GAA and a .654 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE DUTCHMEN:
  • Union is ninth in the Liberty League standings.
  • The Dutchmen are looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to RPI last Friday.
  • Evan Farr leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Robbie Michalski also has three goals.
  • Sean Speck has played a majority of the minutes in goal. He is 2-5-1 with a 1.41 GAA and a .625 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Tomorrow's game will be the 45th meeting between Hobart and Union. The Statesmen lead the all-time series 22-17-5, including a 15-5-3 record on Cozzens Field.
  • Hobart has won five straight matches, including last year's thrilling 4-3 victory in Schenectady, New York.
 
ABOUT THE ENGINEERS:
  • RPI is fifth in the Liberty League standings with seven points. They are one point behind Skidmore and Hobart.
  • The Engineers will be at RIT on Friday.
  • Paul Silva leads the team with 13 points and six goals.
  • Kyle Osborne has four goals and nine points.
  • Luke Brezak has played the majority of minutes in goal. He is 3-3-3 with a 1.00 GAA and a .727 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday's game will be the 58th meeting between Hobart and RPI. The Engineers hold a 28-24-6 edge in the series, including a 14-9-3 record in Geneva.
  • The Engineers have won three straight in the series, including a 2-1 victory last year in Troy, New York.
