Field Hockey to battle 2 conference foes this weekend

The William Smith College field hockey team will be back in action this weekend with two Liberty League contests. On Friday, the Herons will head to Troy, New York, to take on RPI at 4 p.m. William Smith will then host Vassar on Sunday, at 1 p.m. on McCooey Field.

Fans who cannot make it to McCooey Field on Sunday, can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the weekend with a 10-2 record after a 1-0 victory over Skidmore on Saturday.
  • The Herons sit at 2-1 in the Liberty League.
  • Goalie Kristen McCormick was named the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week after recording two shutouts in wins over Nazareth and Skidmore.
  • Forward Sofia Pattillo earned a spot on the honor roll after recording four points on two goals last week.
  • Graduate student Emily Leonard leads the team with 25 points on 12 goals and one assist.
  • McCormick is 7-1 on the season, recording a 0.76 GAA, .759 save percentage and five shutouts.
 
ABOUT THE ENGINEERS:
  • RPI enters the weekend 6-6 on the season, with a 0-3 record in conference play. On Monday, the Engineers defeated Russel Sage 7-0.
  • Rachel Banister leads the team with 12 points on six goals.
  • Jen Richardson has an edge in goalie minutes played. She is 5-5 with a 2.20 GAA and a .727 save percentage.
ABOUT THE BREWERS:
  • Vassar enters the weekend 8-3 overall, with a 2-1 record in conference play. On Saturday, the Brewers defeated Union 8-0.
  • The Brewers will take on Rochester in a Liberty League matchup on Friday, before heading to Geneva on Sunday.
  • Hailey Brigger leads the team heading into the weekend, with 16 points on seven goals and two assists.
  • Sarah Dumaresq leads the Brewers in goal, posting a 8-3 record. She currently has a 1.07 GAA, and a .684 save percentage.
     
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Friday's matchup will be the 33rd meeting between the Herons and the Engineers.
  • The Herons lead the series 26-6, with a 10-4 edge in Troy.
  • In their last meeting on Oct. 22, 2021, the Engineers defeated the Herons 2-0 in Geneva.
  • Sunday's game will be the 23rd meeting between the Herons and the Brewers.
