#5 William Smith hosts Vassar Saturday

The fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10, when it welcomes Vassar College to Cozzens Field to begin a two-game homestand to conclude the regular season. The Liberty League contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
 
The Herons enter the weekend with an 11-1-2 overall record and a 6-0-1 mark in conference play. William Smith has won seven straight contests and is unbeaten in its last 11 games. The Brewers are 7-4-3 overall with a 3-2-1 mark in the Liberty League. Assar is coming off a 6-1 win over St. Lawrence last Saturday.
 
Fans who cannot make it to Cozzens Field can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The Game will also be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • Emma Faso leads the team with 18 points on eight goals and two assists.
  • Ava Ruppersberger is right behind her with 16 points on six goals and four assists.
  • Ruth Hotaling has a team-high five assists.
  • Kirsten Nelson and Amanda Kesler have split time in goal this season. Nelson is 7-0-0 with a 0.28 GAA and a .917 save percentage. Kesler is 4-1-2 with a 0.58 GAA and a .750 save percentage.
 
NATIONAL NUMBERS:
  • Defensively, William Smith is 10th in the nation in shutout percentage (0.714) and 11th in GAA (0.43).
  • On the other end of the field, William Smith is 23rd in the nation in scoring offense (3.21 gpg) and 26th in points per game (8.36).
  • In addition, William Smith is 18th in the nation in winning percentage (0.857).
  • Individually, Nelson is seventh in the nation in GAA and 11th in save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE BREWERS:
  • Vassar is led by Claire Karlin's 12 points and six goals. Justine Tapert has a team-best three assists.
  • Teresa Zimmer has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 7-3-3 with a 0.52 GAA and an .816 save percentage.
  • The Brewers are 21st in the nation in GAA (0.500).
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday's game will be the 27th meeting between William Smith and Vassar. The Herons hold a 24-1-1 lead in the series, including a 13-1-1 mark in Geneva.
  • The Herons have won three straight in the series.
