#6 Herons host Saints in regular season finale

The sixth-ranked William Smith College soccer team will wrap up the 2022 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29, when it welcomes St. Lawrence to Cozzens Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
 
William Smith enters the weekend with an 11-1-3 overall record and a 6-0-2 mark in conference play. The Herons are coming off a 0-0 tie with Vassar last Saturday. The Saints are 6-6-2 overall with a 2-5-1 mark in conference play. St. Lawrence was edged by Clarkson 2-1 on Tuesday.
 
Fans who cannot make the trip to Geneva can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith's balanced attack is led by four players with double digits in points.
  • Emma Faso leads the way with 18 points and eight goals.
  • Ruth Hotaling has a team-high five assists
  • Kirsten Nelson and Amanda Kesler have split time in goal. Nelson is 7-0-1 with a 0.25 GAA and a .923 save percentage. Kesler is 4-1-2 with a 0.58 GAA and a .750 save percentage.

  • William Smith is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in shutout percentage (7th, 0.733) and goals against average (10th, 0.40).
  • In addition, William smith is 26th in winning percentage (.833).
  • Nelson is seventh in the nation in GAA and save percentage.
 
PLAYOFF PUSH:
  • Entering the final day of the regular season, the six-team Liberty League Tournament field is set with today's matches deciding the seeding.
  • The Herons sit atop the league with 20 points. William Smith can clinch the regular season title with a victory on Saturday.
  • Ithaca is second in the league standings with 19 points.
  • The Herons can also clinch the top spot in the conference with a tie or loss by the Bombers.
  • If Ithaca wins and the Herons tie or lose, the Bombers will take the No. 1 seed.
 
ABOUT THE SAINTS:
  • St. Lawrence was eliminated from postseason contention in Tuesday's loss.
  • The Saints are led by Meredith Donahue's eight points. She shares the team lead with Emma Reynolds with three goals.
  • Emma Casey has a team-high three assists.
  • Keely Snode has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 5-6-2 with a 1.08 GAA and an .800 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday's game will be the 50th meeting all-time between William Smith and St. Lawrence. The Herons hold a 38-8-3 edge in the series, including a 22-2-1 lead in Geneva.
  • William Smith has won 17 straight games against St. Lawrence.
