Herons down Saints 3-1 to conclude regular season

CANTON, N.Y.—The William Smith College volleyball team closed out it's regular season with a 3-1 Liberty League win over St. Lawrence this afternoon. The Herons now sit at 16-5 overall and 6-2 in conference, with the Saints falling to 7-19 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Leading the way for the Herons was sophomore Elizaveta Telepova with 15 kills on 31 swings, hitting .323 on the match.
 
MATCH MOMENTS:
  • The Saints came out firing in set one, hitting .250 as a team compared to the Herons .114. Julia Giroux recorded four kills in set one, to deliver the 25-20 victory to the Saints.
  • The Herons flipped the script in set two, taking a 25-20 victory and tying the match at one.
  • Telepova recorded five kills in set three, as the Herons hit an impressive .429 as a team. The Herons kept the Saints to a -.107 hitting percentage in the set to take a 25-14 set three victory.
  • William Smith kept the pressure on in set four, hitting .242 as a team. The Herons would win the set 25-14 to complete its sixth conference victory of the season.

"I'm so unbelievably proud of this team to accomplish what they did throughout the regular season," Head coach Derryk Williams said. "To be 16-5 as a brand-new program and 6-2 in conference is nothing shy of remarkable. Their sacrifices have paid off and I can't wait to see what they can do in the tournament!"

William Smith will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 1, when they host the sixth seed, Union, in the Liberty League quarterfinals at 6 p.m. in Bristol Gym.
