Statesmen face Thoroughbreds in first round

The Hobart College soccer will head to Saratoga Springs, New York, to begin the 2022 Liberty League Men's Soccer Championship tomorrow, Nov. 1.  The Statesmen, who are the tournament's No. 6 seed, will face the No. 3 seed, Skidmore, at 5 p.m. on the Thoroughbred's Wachenheim Field.
 
Hobart wrapped up the regular season with an 8-4-5 overall record and a 3-2-4 mark in Liberty League play. The Statesmen are looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to St. Lawrence to close out the regular season. Skidmore is 8-3-5 and wrapped up conference play with a 4-2-3 mark.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN:
  • Connor Koschineg leads the team with 11 points and five assists.
  • Quinn Phillips leads the team with four goals and has 10 points.
  • Amad Miller and Frederick Madsen have three goals each.
  • Guillermo Chang Castaneda has the edge in goalie minutes played. He is 4-2-5 with a 1.16 GAA and a .694 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE THOROUGHBREDS:
  • Skidmore won two straight games to close out the regular season and clinched the No. 3 seed with a 1-0 victory over Bard.
  • Kamal Ibrahim leads the team with 14 goals and 28 points. He is 17th in goals per game (0.88) and 20th in total goals.
  • Finn Weber has a team-high three assists.
  • Boby Stratts has played every minute in goal or Skidmore. He is 8-3-5 with a 0.88 GAA and a .859 save percentage.
 
WHEN LAST WE MET:
  • The Statesmen and Thoroughbreds played to a 1-1 tie on Sep. 24 on Cozzens Field.
  • Koschineg scored in the fifth minute for Hobart and Weber tallied the equalizer in the 49th minute for Skidmore.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Tomorrow's game will be the 32nd meeting between the two teams. Hobart holds an 11-8-12 edge in the series, but Skidmore is 6-5-4 on its home field.
  • The Statesmen and Thoroughbreds last met in the conference tournament in 2016. The game ended in a 1-1 tie on Cozzens Field. Skidmore advanced to the conference title game 5-4 on penalty kicks.

The winner of tomorrow's game advances to the semifinals where they will take on Vassar in Poughkeepsie, New York.
