Volleyball hosts Union in Liberty League first round Tuesday

The William Smith College volleyball team will host its first ever Liberty League Tournament game this Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Herons will take on Union in the first round of the tournament with the match starting at 6 p.m. in Bristol Gymnasium. The winner will advance to take on Clarkson on Friday night at Ithaca.

Fans who cannot make it to Bristol Gym this weekend can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • The Herons are 16-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play to earn the No. 3 seed in the six-team tournament.
  • Sophomore Elizaveta Telepova was named to the Liberty League honor roll after last week's performances.
  • First-year Malya Sayre leads the Herons with 244 kills, averaging 3.21 kills per set, followed by Telepova with 209 kills (2.79).
  • Sophomore Elaina Wamhoff sits at 727 assists, averaging 9.57 per set, which leads the Liberty League and is 24th in the nation.
  • Sophomore Ariana Angus leads the Herons with 158 digs, averaging 2.08 digs per set, followed by Wamhoff with 148 (1.95).
  • William Smith shows a strong presence at the net, recording 115 blocks as a team. First-year Jaylynn McCarthy leads the team with 53 (0.70 blk/s) followed by senior Lauren DeVaney with 49 (0.65 blk/s).

ABOUT THE DUTCHWOMEN
  • Union finished the regular season 12-14 and 2-6 in the Liberty League. The Dutchwomen are the No. 6 seed.
  • Shannon McGrath leads the Dutchwomen in kills with 252, averaging 3.55 kills per set.
  • Haley Kresch sits at 478 assists on the year, averaging 5.03 assists per set.
  • Georgia Pool leads the Dutchwomen in digs with 293, averaging 3.66 digs per set.
  • Union has recorded 104 blocks as a team this season, with Julia Webster leading the way with 48.

LAST TIME WE MET
  • William Smith defeated Union 3-0 on Oct. 22. (25-8,25-9,25-14) in Bristol Gym.
  • The Herons were offensively dominant in that match, hitting .431 as a team, the second highest percentage William Smith has hit all season.
  • The Heron defense held Union to a -.027 hitting percentage in their last meeting.
  • Sayre led the Herons with 12 kills, hitting .500 on the match.
  • Keara Page led the Dutchwomen with seven kills, hitting .105 on the match.
