Herons fall 3-0 at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The William Smith College volleyball team fell 3-0 to Clarkson in Liberty League action on Friday night. Leading the way for the Herons was sophomore Elizaveta Telepova with 11 kills on 26 attempts, hitting .308 on the night.

MATCH MOMENTS:
  • The Herons hit .171 in set one against the Golden Knights. Leading the way for the Heron offense was Telepova (11), as well as first-years Malya Sayre and Hope Von Dohlen both with 9 kills on the night. After the back-and-forth battle, Clarkson would take set one 25-20.
  • William Smith would hit .207 in set two but were matched by a strong Golden Knight offense, who hit .345 in the set. Sophomore setter Elaina Wamhoff recorded 30 assists on the night but was matched by a gritty Clarkson defense. The Golden Knights would take set two 25-17
  • The Herons responded with a strong defensive effort in set three. Sayre would lead the way for the Heron defense with eight digs on the night, followed by first-years Cydney Fernandez and Jaylynn McCarthy both recording six digs. The Heron's defense was matched by a strong Clarkson offense hitting .500 on the set to complete the sweep for the Golden Knights.
COACHES CORNER:
 
"Tonight was a good learning lesson for us," Head Coach Derryk Williams said. "Clarkson is a great team, and they served and passed us off the court. Our hitters did great and there's some really nice progress as a whole. We need to refocus to tomorrow and take care of business."
 
UP NEXT:
 
William Smith will head to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore tomorrow in its second league action of the weekend. First serve is set to begin at 2 p.m.
