#1 Statesmen shut out Wildcats 5-0

ATTLEBORO, Mass..—The top-ranked Hobart College hockey team defeated Johnson and Wales 5-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the New England Sports Village this evening. With their seventh-straight win, the Statesmen are 7-0-0 overall on the year with a 3-0-0 mark in conference play.
 
First-year Tanner Hartman led the way for Hobart collecting two assists. Five different players scored in the victory. First-year Mavrick Goyer stopped all 14 shots he faced as he earned his first collegiate shutout. Jake Perrin played all 60 minutes in goal for the Wildcats (0-7-0, 0-5-0) and made 50 saves.
 
KEY STATS:
  • Hobart finished the game with a 55-14 edge in shots on goal.
  • Neither team scored a power-play goal. The Statesmen were 0-for-3 with the man advantage and Johnson and Wales was 0-for-2.
  • Hobart is 7-0-0 for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
 
FIRST PERIOD:
  • The Statesmen opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first period. Matthew Perryman one-timed a shot past Perrin for his first collegiate goal. Matthieu Wuth and Kahlil Fontana were credited with assists on the goal.
  • Hobart continued to apply pressure late in the frame, but Perrin made a pair of point-blank stops on Luke Aquaro and made a blocker save off of a shot from Cooper Swift.

  • Hobart put the game out of reach on Matthew Iasenza's third goal of the season. His goal five minutes into the frame was assisted by Hartman.
  • Ignat Belov made it 5-0 with his third goal of the year. Hartman was awarded an assist on the strike.
 
UP NEXT:
Hobart will conclude its three-game road trip tomorrow, Nov. 19, when it takes on UMass Boston. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Edward T. Barry Ice Arena.
