#18 Amherst edges #24 Hobart

AMHERST, Mass.—The 24th-ranked Hobart College squash team was edged by 18th-ranked Amherst 5-4 in a match at the Mammoths Davenport Squash Courts. Today's match was the season opener for both teams.
 
MATCH MOMENTS:
  • The Statesmen had two 3-0 victories.
  • Omar Kiwan logged Hobart's first point, defeating Kedar Nagaraj, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, in the No. 2 spot.
  • Roberto Vega swept Matthew Granovsky, 13-11, 11-9, 11-5, at No. 6. Dating back to last year, it was Vega's fifth consecutive victory.
  • Joseph Raskin Lantos rallied to beat Adam Lichtmacher, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, in the No. 4 spot.
  • At. No. 1, Sebi De La Vega defeated Charlie Sutherby in five games, 11-7, 11-5, 5-11, 13-15, 11-2.
  • The deciding point in the match came down to the No. 5 spot. Javier De La Vega was edged by Abhimanyu Gupta, 10-12, 5-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-9.
 
COACH'S CORNER:
"It was fun to watch the men battle a very good Amherst team to the brink and almost come out of there with a win today," Head Coach Pat Cosquer said. "Matches like these will make this team stronger and pay dividends as we continue through a very challenging match schedule."
 
UP NEXT:
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Nov. 20, when it takes on Williams. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at the Smith Squash Center.
