#18 Yellowjackets down Herons in home opener

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team fell to No.18 Rochester 92-48 in its home opener in Bristol Gym this evening. The Herons fall to 1-2 while the Yellowjackets improve to 5-0 on the season.

Junior Brooke Jarvis led the Herons with 16 points and 13 rebounds, earning her first double-double of the season. Senior Lauren DeVaney chipped in seven points and five rebounds in the loss.

HERON STAT LEADERS  
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rochester came out strong, shooting 75% from the free throw line and outscoring the Herons 21-13 in the first quarter.
  • The Yellowjackets continued to shine in the second quarter, outscoring the Herons 26-6. Rochester shot 61.11% from the floor to close out a strong half.
  • The Herons looked to fight back in the third quarter as sophomore Molly Walsh posted four points and one defensive rebound to give the Herons a spark.
  • Jarvis posted six of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, as the Herons put up 15 points to chip away at the Yellowjacket lead.
  • Junior Maddie Patrick recorded three rebounds and one block to help the Herons keep the Yellowjackets to their lowest scoring quarter in the fourth.
  • Rochester would finish on top, closing out the game at 92-48, handing the Herons their second loss of the season.

"We grew a lot today," Head Coach Lindsay Sharman said. "We played better and executed the game plan much better in the second half. It was a good experience for us as such a young team to play against a team of that caliber".

The Herons will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 29, when they head to Clinton, New York, to take on Hamilton. Tip off between the Herons and the Continentals is set to begin at 7 p.m.
