Herons head to Puerto Rico to participate in the 2022 Clasico

The William Smith College basketball team will head to San Juan, Puerto Rico, this weekend to participate in the 2022 Clasico presented by Puerto Rico College Sports Tours. The Herons will take on Edgewood College on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m., followed by the University of Maine, Presque Isle at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 19.
 
The Herons will play at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in San Juan. Their games will be live streamed by FloHoops for a subscription fee. Fans can find the event hub during the tournament here.
 
If you're planning on traveling with the team, fans can purchase tickets at the event table in the lobby of the Embassy Suites. Tickets must be bought prior to attending the games and will come in $40 packages, which will allow entrance into both William Smith games as well as all games on the days purchased.

WILLIAM SMITH HERONS
  • The Herons are 1-6 on the season, coming off a 56-39 loss to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday.
  • Junior Brooke Jarvis leads the team, averaging 15.9 points per game, followed by senior Lauren DeVaney with 10 points per game.
  • DeVaney and sophomore Maddie Patrick average a team-leading 7.4 rebounds per game, followed by Jarvis with 6.6.
  • Sophomore Katie Smythe was named to the Liberty League weekly honor roll after posting a season-high eight points in the loss to the Knights.
EDGEWOOD EAGLES
  • The Eagles bring a 3-6 overall record to Puerto Rico, after defeating Alverno College 85-49 on Saturday.
  • Before taking on the Herons, Edgewood will face off against Emerson College on Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Clasico.
  • Paige Banks leads the Eagles, averaging 13.3 points per game, followed by Kallie Norby with 9.3.
  • Vivian Guerrero posts a team-leading 9.0 rebounds per game, followed by Norby with 5.6.
  • This will also be the first meeting between the Herons and Owls.
MAINE, PRESQUE ISLE OWLS
  • The Owls bring a 5-3 overall record to Puerto Rico, after defeating Fisher College 84-46 on Sunday.
  • Maine, Presque Isle will also take on Misericordia while in San Juan.
  • Emily Wheaton leads the Owls, averaging 18.9 points per game, followed by Aleia Milano with 12.8.
  • Alexis Ireland posts a team-leading 10.3 rebounds per game, followed by Milano with 5.8.
  • This will be the first time in program history the Herons and Owls have faced off.
