The Hobart College squash team will travel to Philadelphia this weekend, Feb. 18-20, for the 2022 College Squash Association Team Championships. Ranked 26th in the nation, the Statesmen will compete for the Conroy Cup.

Normally an eight-team draw, this year's Conroy Cup will have nine teams and be contested as a three group round robin. As the second-seeded team in the field, Hobart brings a 7-9 overall record into the tournament. The Statesmen were drawn into Group B with Haverford and Vassar. Hobart opens the tournament against No. 29 Haverford, Friday at Noon. They will then take on No. 32 Vassar at 5 p.m.

After Friday's matches, the teams will be broken down into three groups based on the teams' finishes in group play. The teams group B will play its third match at 9 a.m Saturday. If Hobart win's Group B, their final match will take place Sunday at 8:30 p.m. If the Statesmen finish second or third in Group B their final match of the weekend will take place at 10:30 a.m, Sunday.

The championship will be hosted at the University of Pennsylvannia's Squash Center and the Arlen Specter Center. Hobart's matches Friday will be at the Specter Center. The match Saturday morning will be at UPenn.

Spectators must be fully vaccinated in order to enter the venue's hosting the CSA Championships. Fans who cannot show valid identification and proof of vaccination status may not attend events in person. All spectators at the competition venues must wear a mask over their nose and mouth at all times while inside the facilities. Guests are asked to refrain from bringing food into the viewing areas to maintain proper masking protocol.

The rest of the Conroy Cup Field includes, No. 25 Colby, Hamilton, Wesleyan, Conn College, Denison and Fordham. Hobart is 6-1 this season against the rest of the Conroy Cup field.

James Mazarelli and
Roberto Vega share the team lead with eight wins each. Vega is 8-5 overall this season and Mazzarelli is 8-8. Four other players have seven wins.
Mo Abdelhafez is 5-4 in the No. 1 spot of the lineup.

Hobart last won the Conroy Cup in 2012. The Statesmen also won the Conroy Cup in 2007. Hobart has reached the championship match in the Conroy cup seven times. In 2020, Hobart finished second in the Chaffe Cup, losing in the championship match to Fordham.
