Hobart beats Hamilton 6-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The Hobart College squash team defeated Hamilton 6-3 on Day 2 at the College Squash Team National Championships. With the win, the Statesmen are now 10-9 this season and 3-0 in the Conroy Cup draw.
 
Hobart, which is ranked 26th in the nation in the CSA Team Rankings, will take on Colby, which is ranked 25th, tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. The winner of tomorrow's match will win the Conroy Cup as both teams enter the match 3-0 on the weekend.
 
This morning against the Continentals, Hobart won four of its six points with 3-0 sweeps. Their other two points were 3-1 victories. Playing in the No. 2 spot, Omar Kiwan notched his third-straight victory, knocking off Waleed Nisar 11-7, 11-6, 11-6. Kiwan is now 10-8 on the season. Mo Abdelhafez rolled to an 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 victory over Ashby Howard in the No. 3 spot. With three straight wins, Abdelhafez is now 9-8 this season. In the No. 4 spot, Joey Lantos bested Rufus Somerby, 11-9, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7. Lantos is 10-8 this season with a 6-4 mark in the No. 4 spot.
 
James Mazzarelli picked up his team-leading 11th win of the season thanks to a come-from-behind victory in the sixth spot. Mazzarelli rallied to defeat William Rice, 10-12, 16-14, 11-4, 11-4. Mazzarelli is 11-8 overall this season. Roberto Vega and Sayf Elhawary logged 3-0 victories in the No. 7 and 8 spot, respectively. Vega beat Tate Burgin, 11-8, 11-4, 11-7, and Elhawary knocked off Tripp Peters, 11-3, 13-11, 11-9.  Vega matched Mazzarelli with his 11th win of the season. It was Elhawary's 10th victory of the season.
 
Giacomo Dalle Molle was edged by Nicholas Carabatsos, 5-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-4, 9-11, in the closest match of the day.
