Parisi post game-high 16 in loss to Knights

GENESEO, N.Y.—Olivia Parisi scored a game-high 16 points, but a second-quarter swoon proved costly as the William Smith College basketball team lost 57-43 at SUNY Geneseo tonight.

Parisi was the only Heron in double figures, making 7-of-16 from the floor and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. She also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists. Kerstin Kelly gave William Smith eight points. Lauren DeVaney shared game-high honors with 11 rebounds.

Hannah Stockman's double-double led the Knights. She logged 11 points and 11 boards. Mackenzie Reigle also scored 11 points for Geneseo, while Lauren Romito had eight points, 11 boards and four blocked shots.

After a pair of free throws by DeVaney midway through the first quarter, William Smith led 11-8, but Geneseo swung into the lead with eight straight points. The Knight carried an 18-14 lead into the second quarter.

It was a two-point game two minutes into the second frame, but a seven-point burst by the home team extended the Geneseo lead to 25-16 six minutes before halftime. A Parisi jumper at the four-minute mark made it a five-point game, but the Knights scored the final six points of the half to go into the locker room with a 33-22 lead.

Geneseo (13-8) maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half to secure the victory.

William Smith (4-15) will play the middle game of a three-game road trip Friday, Feb. 11 at Union (8-12, 6-8). Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
