Corrales Marco leads Statesmen to 3rd straight win

POTSDAM, N.Y.—David Corrales Marco exploded for a career-high 19 points to lead the Hobart College basketball team to its third straight win, 89-70 at Clarkson University this afternoon. The win moves the Statesmen's record to 9-11 overall, 6-7 in the Liberty League, while the Golden Knights slip to 5-16, 2-12.

Corrales Marco began the day with a career-high of seven points, which he scored in Geneva against Clarkson on Saturday. In today's matinee, he went 5-of-6 from beyond the 3-point arc, making more threes this afternoon than he had in his previous 18 appearances for the Statesmen. Corrales Marco was 7-of-8 shooting overall, recording all of his points after halftime. He had plenty of company in double digits.

Jackson Meshanic posted 14 points, five rebounds and a game-high four assists. Chandler Owenby logged 13 points, and a team-high six boards. Carter Meshanic finished with 11 points and Aidan Rodgers chipped in 10. In total, 11 different Statesmen contributed to the scoring.

Clarkson got a game-high 20 points from Chris Hulbert. He was 7-of-14 shooting with four 3-poitners. Blake Gearhardt joined him in double digits with 18 points. Ryan Miles-Ferguson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Gearhardt gave CU its only lead of the game, connecting from long range for the game's opening basket. Owenby followed with a dunk for Hobart and then Rodgers hit a 3 to give the Statesmen a 5-3 edge. Hulbert sandwiched 3-pointers around a trey by Hobart's Jack Lesure to forge ties at 5 and 8, but the Statesmen canned the game's next eight points to take the lead for good. Jackson Meshanic started the run with a 3-pointer and Owenby capped it off with an old-fashion 3-point play.

Leading by four near the midpoint of the first half, Hobart built some breathing room with a 10-2 run that saw Patrick Walker pour in four points. The surge gave the visitors a 12-point lead with five minutes left in the half. Clarkson went into the break trailing 38-30 by finishing the half on a 10-6 run.

At the halfway point, Owenby led all scorers with 13 points while Jackson Meshanic had 12. Gearhardt led Clarkson with 11.

Hobart opened the second half on an 8-2 run with Rodgers providing half of the Statesmen scoring.

The Golden Knights were still hanging around at the midpoint of the second half, trailing 59-49 after Miles-Ferguson converted a jumper, then Corrales Marco went to work. With zero points to his credit through the first 30 minutes, he poured in 14 points, including four 3-pointers, over the next five minutes, ballooning Hobart's lead to 80-56 with under five minutes left.

For the game, Hobart shot 53.1% from the floor, 43.5% from 3-point land and made more free throws (11) than Clarkson attempted (8).

The Statesmen will continue their four-game road trip at Union (9-11, 6-8) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11.
