Football falls at Morrisville 24-13

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The Hobart football team dropped a 24-13 decision at Morrisville State this afternoon. The Statesmen were undone by a pair of second quarter fumbles that the Mustangs turned into touchdowns.

How It Happened
  • Hobart's opening drive got bogged down by penalties and stalled near midfield.
  • Morrisville countered with a 12-play, 81-yard drive that ended with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Steven Frerichs to Justin Adams early in the second quarter. It was the Mustangs' only offensive TD of the game.
  • The Statesmen reached the red zone on their ensuing drive, but a fumble at the Morrisville 24 was scooped up by Anai Brake and returned 76 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.
  • Hobart again pushed into the red zone, but had to settle for a 32-yard field goal by Tobias Wefering after a third-and-12 pass fell incomplete.
  • The Statesmen forced Morrisville to punt on its ensuing possession, but Hobart fumbled the return and Dante McGowan recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a touchdown and a 21-3 halftime lead.
  • Hobart scored the only points of the third quarter when Wefering booted a 30-year field goal, cutting the deficit to 21-6.
  • The Mustangs got the three points back early in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard field goal by Cole Owen. The short scoring drive was set up by McGowan's interception and 39-yard return.
  • The Statesmen got their only offensive touchdown on the day on their next possession. Quarterback Johnny Colombi directed a 4-play, 75-yard drive, completing four straight passes. Peyton Cayea's 6-yard catch for a touchdown capped the drive. and was his first TD reception. It was the first career passing TD for Colombi and the first receiving TD for Cayea.
  • On its ensuing possession, Morrisville gained four first downs and ran out the clock.
