Herons take on #19 Cortland Saturday

The William Smith College field hockey team will be back in action this weekend when it hosts No. 19 SUNY Cortland in a nonconference matchup on Saturday at noon.

Fans who cannot make it to McCooey Field can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the weekend with a 5-1 record after a 7-0 win over Keuka College on Wednesday night.
  • Senior Mary Kate Breward and junior Sofia Pattillo were named to the Liberty League honor roll after three strong performances last week.  
  • Forward Emily Leonard leads the team with 16 points on eight goals. Leonard recorded four goals in Wednesday night's matchup against Keuka, tying the school record for goals in a game.
  • Pattillo follows with five goals and three assists for 13 points on the season.
  • Junior goalie Kristen McCormick is 3-0 on the season for the Herons. McCormick has a 0.62 GAA and a .750 save percentage.
ABOUT THE RED DRAGONS:
  • Cortland brings a 4-0 record into Saturday's game. On Wednesday, the Red Dragons defeated Ithaca 2-1 in overtime.
  • The Red Dragons are currently ranked No. 19 in the NFHCA Division III National Coaches poll.
  • Senior Lily Fox leads the team with four goals and three assists for 11 points followed by Sophomore Kierra Ettere with four goals and one assist for nine points.
  • First-year Emma Morgan leads the Red Dragons defense as she is 4-0 on the season in goal. She brings a 0.50 GAA and a .714 save percentage into Saturday's game.
     
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 57th meeting between the Herons and the Red Dragons.
  • Cortland leads the series 35-21-1 with the series split 13-13-1 in Geneva.
  • William Smith is looking to bounce back after the Red Dragons defeated the Herons 5-3 in last season's matchup at SUNY Cortland.
