Herons to host Nazareth in 1st home match

The William Smith College volleyball team will play its first home match in school history on Wednesday night against Nazareth College. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. in Bristol Gymnasium. Fans who cannot make it to Bristol Gymnasium can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the week with a 6-3 record after collecting three wins over Hartwick, Alfred State and Morrisville last weekend.
  • First-year Hope Von Dohlen was named to the Liberty League honor roll after recording 52 kills, 14 digs, nine blocks and three service aces on the weekend.
  • First-year Malya Sayre leads the Herons with 92 kills on the season, averaging 3.72 kills per set, followed by sophomore Elizaveta Telepova with 80 kills averaging 2.76 kills per set.
  • Sophomore setter Elaina Wamhoff sits at 252 assists on the year, averaging 8.69 assists per set. Wamhoff also brings a strong serving presence to the game as she has recorded 16 aces on the season.
  • The defensive dynamic duo of Cydney Fernandez and Ariana Angus have combined for 146 digs on the season to help lead the Herons to an impressive start to the season.
  • William Smith shows a strong presence at the net, recording 44 blocks. Leading the way for the Herons is senior Lauren DeVaney (21), first-year Jaylynn McCarthy (16), and Telepova (15).
ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLYERS:
  • Nazareth brings a 3-7 record into Wednesday's match. The Golden Flyers went 1-2 last weekend after losing 3-0 to SUNY Geneseo, 3-0 to Penn State Behrend and taking a 3-2 win over Lasell at the RIT Invitational.
  • Senior Kaylee Kelly leads the Golden Flyers with 92 kills, followed by sophomore Tessa Grover with 60 kills.
  • Grover leads the team in assists with 193 on the year, recording 5.22 assists per set.
  • Nazareth currently sits at 45 blocks on the season with sophomore Ruth Jackson (25) leading the way, followed by Grover with 24.
