#5 Herons head to Ithaca for midweek clash

The fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer team will conclude its two-game road trip tomorrow, Sept. 28, when it makes the 50-mile trip south to take on Ithaca. The match at Carp Wood Field is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
 
The Herons (4-1-2, 1-0-1) held at No. 5 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll and were ranked ninth in the D3soccer.com poll. Tomorrow's game will be a rematch of the 2021 Liberty League Championship game in which the Herons rallied for a 3-2 double overtime victory. The Herons trailed twice in the final 11 minutes of the contest. The Bombers scored with just under two minutes remaining to take a 2-1 lead. Thirty-nine seconds later, Katrine Berg scored the equalizer with just 68 seconds remaining in regulation. Merilyn Hinrichs '21 scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith is coming off a 1-0-1 week to open Liberty League play. The Herons beat RIT 4-1 and played to a 1-1 draw with Skidmore.
  • Midfielder Ava Ruppersberger, who was named to the Liberty League weekly honor roll, leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists.
  • Emma Faso also has three goals.
  • Amanda Kesler has the edge in goalie minutes played. She is 1-1-2 with an .818 save percentage and a 0.51 GAA.
 
ABOUT THE BOMBERS:
  • Ithaca is 5-1-2 on the season with a 1-0-0 mark in Liberty League action. The Bombers are coming off a 2-0 victory over Clarkson on Saturday.
  • Rosie Bostian leads the team with 11 points and five goals. Delaney Rutan is right behind her with nine points on three goals and three assists.
  • Claire Reader has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 3-1-2 with a 1.33 GAA and a .789 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday's game will be the 35th all-time between William Smith and Ithaca. The Herons lead the 22-8-4 and have won eight straight matches
  • William Smith is 8-3-3 in Ithaca.
