Herons host Vassar to open conference play on Saturday

The William Smith College volleyball team will be back in action during Homecoming & Family weekend on Saturday, Oct. 1 as they open Liberty League play against Vassar College. First serve is set for 11:30 a.m. in Bristol Gymnasium.
 
Fans who cannot make it to Bristol Gymnasium can follow the action with HWS-All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the weekend with a 7-3 record after collecting its first ever home victory with a 3-0 sweep of Nazareth College last Wednesday.
  • Sophomore Elaina Wamhoff was named to the Liberty League honor roll after recording 32 assists, 10 digs, two aces and one block in the sweep of the Golden Flyers.
  • First-year Jaylynn McCarthy recorded 10 kills on 14 swings and zero errors, hitting an impressive .714 in the Herons seventh win of the season.
  • First-year Malya Sayre leads the Herons with 113 kills on the season, averaging 3.05 kills per set, followed by fellow first-year Hope Von Dohlen with 96 kills, averaging 2.67 kills per set.
  • Wamhoff sits at 329 assists on the year, averaging 8.89 assists per set. She also brings a strong serving presence to the game as she has recorded 19 aces on the season.
  • The defensive dynamic duo of Cydney Fernandez and Ariana Angus have combined for 174 digs on the season to help lead the Herons to an impressive start to the season. First-year Marin Montagne played her first game as libero against Nazareth, recording 12 digs on the night.
  • William Smith shows a strong presence at the net, recording 62 blocks. Leading the way for the Herons is senior Lauren DeVaney (29), McCarthy (25), and sophomore Elizaveta Telepova (18).
ABOUT THE BREWERS:
  • Vassar brings a 1-10 overall record and a 1-2 Liberty League record into Saturday's match after falling to Union College 3-1 in a conference matchup on Wednesday night.
  • Hailey Hayes leads the Brewers with 87 kills, followed by Molly Delahunty with 70 kills.
  • First-year Melia Voss leads the team in assists with 229 on the year, recording 6.19 assists per set
  • Vassar currently sits at 55 blocks on the season with Julia Hale (25) leading the way, followed by Rebecca Gutierrez with 20.
