Hobart concludes road trip at Southern Maine, #11 Babson

The top-ranked Hobart College hockey team will conclude its four-game road trip this weekend, Jan. 13-14, with a pair of New England Hockey Conference showdowns. The Statesmen will be at the University of Southern Maine Friday at 7 p.m. and will take on 11th-ranked Babson College Saturday at 4 p.m.
 
Hobart is 14-1-0 overall on the season and 7-1-0 in the NEHC. The Statesmen are looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to then No. 10 Norwich. It was Hobart's first loss of the season. The Statesmen shut out New England College 3-0 on Friday to extend its winning streak to 14 games, the longest in program history. Hobart was the last unbeaten and untied team in all of college hockey. Hobart enters the weekend second in the conference standings with 21 points but has a game in hand on league-leading Norwich.
 
The Huskies are 2-11-1 overall with a 1-8-0 mark in conference play. Southern Maine has lost two straight games and is tied for ninth in the conference standings with three points. Babson brings a 10-4-2 overall record and a 5-2-2 record in the NEHC into the weekend. The Beavers are third with 17 points and will host Elmira on Friday night.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Junior forward Jonah Alexander leads the team with 11 assists and 19 goals. He is second on the team with eight goals.
  • In total, 22 Statesmen have recorded at least one point this year and 17 have scored a goal.
  • First-years Damon Beaver and Mavrick Goyer have split time in goal through the first 15 games of the season. Beaver is 7-1-0 with a 0.87 GAA and a .961 save percentage. Goyer is 7-0-0 with a 1.14 GAA and a .941 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE HUSKIES
  • Curtis Judd leads Southern Maine with seven goals and 14 points.
  • Cole Ouelette has a team-best eight assists.
  • Kyle Penton has the edge in minutes played in goal. He is 2-5-1 with a 2.86 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Friday's game will be the 12th meeting between the Statesmen and Huskies. Hobart has won 10 of the previous 11 meetings, including four straight.
  • The Statesmen are 3-1-0 in Gorham, Maine.
  • Earlier this season, Hobart clipped Southern Maine 2-1 at The Cooler. Sophomore Luke Aquaro scored the game-winning goal in the second period. First-year Ignat Belov also notched a goal for the Statesmen.
 
ABOUT THE BEAVERS:
  • Thomas Kramer leads Babson with 15 points on five goals and 10 assists.
  • Andrew Holland is right behind him with a team-high six goals and 12 points.
  • Noah Hildebrand has seen a majority of the action in goal. He is 8-1-2 with a 1.79 GAA and a .939 save percentage.
 
 SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the 24th meeting between Hobart and Babson.
  • The Beavers lead the all-time series 11-7-5, including a 7-2-2 mark in Babson Park, Massachusetts.
  • Hobart has had the upper hand since the teams became league rivals in 2017-18, posting a 5-2-4 mark in 11 meetings.
  • On Nov. 4, the Statesmen defeated the Beavers 4-1 at The Cooler. Four different players scored for Hobart. First-year Tristan Fasig led the Statesmen with two points on a goal and an assist. Damon Beaver made 28 saves in goal and had an assist as he earned his first NEHC victory.
