GORHAM, MAINE—The top-ranked Hobart College hockey team defeated Southern Maine 3-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the USM Ice Arena this evening. With the victory, the Statesmen are now 15-1-0 overall and 8-1-0 in NEHC play.

Tanner Daniels led the way for Hobart, recording a goal and an assist in the victory. First-year
Damon Beaver stopped all 21 shots he faced as he logged his fourth shutout of the season. Kyle Prenton made 42 saves in 60 minutes of work in goal for the Huskies (2-12-1, 1-9-0)

- Hobart finished the game with a 45-21 edge in shots on goal.
- Neither team connected on the power play. The Statesmen were 0-for-2 and Southern Maine was 0-for-3 with the extra attacker.
- Today's game was Hobart's sixth shutout of the season. It matches the Statesmen's single-season record set during the 2018-19 season.
- Beaver's fourth shutout of the year also tied a Hobart single-season record. He now shares the record with Nick Broadwater (2012-13) and Liam Lascelle (2018-19).
THE OPENER
- Hobart opened the scoring with a highlight-reel goal at the 4:16 mark of the first period. Daniels forced a turnover in the offensive end of the rink, skated behind the goal and stuffed a shot into the back of the net. His third goal of the season was unassisted.
- Hobart amassed a 16-7 edge in shots on goal in the opening frame
INSURANCE
- The Statesmen put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in the middle period.
- Brenden Howell gave the Statesmen a 2-0 lead at the 2:03 mark. Howell raced the length of the ice and chipped a shot past Prenton for his second goal of the season. Daniels was awarded the assist on the goal.
- Two minutes later, Matthew Iasenza notched his sixth goal of the season. Just after a penalty had expired he poked a loose puck across the goal line. Jared Patterson was credited with an assist on the goal.
- Artem Buzoverya nearly made it 4-0, but his shot hit the goalpost.

The Statesmen will wrap up a four-game road trip tomorrow, Jan. 14, when it takes on 11th-ranked Babson. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
