Woods leads Herons to second straight CCOC title

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College cross country team defended its home course this afternoon as it hosted the Cross Country Only Championships (CCOC) 6k race this morning at the Seneca Lake State Park cross country course. Ainsley Woods's first place finish led William Smith and lifted the Herons to their best finish of the season and second straight CCOC title. 
 
Woods was crowned the CCOC champion for the second-straight year after finishing first out of 52 runners. This year, she finished with a time of 24:11.5, besting her time from last year by almost 30 seconds. Sophomore Hope Johnson was right behind Woods, with a time of 24:35.1 for a third-place finish. 
 
Junior Abigail Cole rounded out the top-three finishers for William Smith, finishing in sixth after clocking in at 25:30.7. Senior Erin Howe finished right behind Cole in seventh, stopping the clock at 26:02.5.
 
Following the Herons was SUNY Morrisville with a second-place team finish after producing the second and fourth place finishers. Clarkson University rounded out the top-three teams at the CCOC as Gianna Capoccia finished in fifth.

The Herons will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 21, as they travel to Clinton, New York for a meet at Hamilton College.
