ERIE, Pa.—The William Smith College bowling team enjoyed a very successful opening weekend, placing second on total pinfall in the Grapevine Classic hosted by Penn State Behrend. The Herons posted an 8-1 overall record, including a win over AMCC preseason favorite Saint Vincent.

"We are so proud of the collective team effort in our first event of the season," Head Coach Heather Sterner said. "I don't think anyone expected us to be so competitive in just our second year but both [Assistant Coach] Jason [Sterner] and I have so much confidence in this group and we make sure our team knows what they are capable of. They have been working incredibly hard and the maturity level of this group was top-notch with their attitudes, communication, trust in each other, and ability to step up when they needed to."

DAY 1

  • After dropping a 915-864 decision to Daemen, William Smith bounced back with two more wins.
