#4 Herons welcome Nazareth for non-conference finale

The fourth-ranked William Smith College soccer team will be back on Cozzens Field tomorrow, Oct. 18, as they host Nazareth University for a non-conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
The Herons enter this weekend with an overall record of 8-0-3 coming off two Liberty League wins this past weekend. On Friday, the Herons defeated RPI 3-0. Ava Ruppersberger, Ruth Hotaling, and Seneca Blakely-Armitage scored a goal each. Goalkeepers Kirsten Nelson and Zoe Weeks combined for five saves in the shutout. The next day, William Smith beat Union 2-0 on goals from Ruppersburger and Blakely-Armitage. Nelson made a career-high eight saves for the shutout on her way to earning Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors.
 
The Golden Flyers are 5-3-5. This past week Nazareth defeated Utica University 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Makaelynn Neivel. Goalkeeper Annika Monfort made three saves.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Julia DiMenna leads the Herons with five goals.
  • Playmaker Katrine Berg has the team-high with four assists.
  • Ruppersberger leads the team with 11 points and is second with four goals and three assists.
  • Nelson has played the majority of the minutes for the Herons in goal. She is 8-0-3, with a GAA of 0.65 and a save percentage of .870.
 
ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLYERS
  • Tatum Overton leads Nazareth with a team-high of six goals and 13 points.
  • Grace Lanzetta leads the Golden Flyers with four assists.
  • Monfort has played the majority of time in net for Nazareth. Montfort has a GAA of 0.87 and a save percentage of .879.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Wednesday will be the 28th meeting between the Herons and the Golden Flyers.
  • The Herons lead the overall series 20-3-4, including a 9-1-4 mark in Geneva.
  • In October of 2021, the Herons shutout the Golden Flyers 3-0. Julia Berg scored the first goal just before the 19th minute mark. Goalkeeper Amanda Kesler '22 made four saves.
