Sailing 7th at Atlantic Coast Tournament

The Hobart and William Smith sailing team traveled to Annapolis, Maryland. to compete in the Atlantic Coast Tournament. After two days in the water the Colleges finished in seventh place. The tournament welcomed 18 schools from around the country.
 
HWS earned a spot in the tournament after a tenth-place finish in the Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1A qualifying regatta on the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Oct. 8.
 
William Smith sailors were also in New Haven, Connecticut for the Yale Women's Regatta.
 
ATLANTIC COAST TOURNAMENT
  • Saturday's racing was contested in a west-northwesterly breeze ranging from 10-18 knots with gusts up to 30 knots. On Sunday breezes ranged between 12 and 20 knots.
  • Fourteen races were contested for both divisions over the weekend, and the Colleges finished with a combined tally of 228 points.
  • The Colleges B Division boat was powered by skippers Juan Carlos Lacerda Jones and Jeffrey Klempen and crew Rachel Duggan and Cooper Delbridge placed sixth with 112 points. They had nine top-10 finishes including all four races on Sunday where they crossed the line in the top-five four times.
  • HWS was ninth in A Division with 116 points. Will Murray, Frances Depke, and Robert Breslin represented the Colleges. They had 10 top-10 finishes.
 
YALE WOMEN'S REGATTA
  • The Herons finished 13th in New Haven, compiling 273 points on the weekend.
  • A total of 12 races in each division were contested.
  • William Smith placed 12th in B Division with 124 points. Elizabeth Starck competed as skipper with Anna McBride competing as crew. They won the first and the third races and crossed the line in the top 10 six more times.
  • In A Division, William Smith was 14th. Heather Kerns competed as skipper and Maya Mahoney sailed as crew. They were in the top 10 five times.
     
UP NEXT
The Colleges will be back in the water this weekend, Oct. 28-29, for two regattas. HWS will be in Ithaca, New York, for the War Memorial Regatta. William Smith sailors will head to Kings Point, for the MAISA Fall Women's.
