Statesmen face Mustangs in home opener

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team will welcome Morrisville State College to Bristol Gymnasium for the Statesmen's home opener Saturday, Nov. 11. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.

SERIES SNAPSHOT
  • Saturday will mark just the second meeting between Hobart and Morrisville State. The Mustangs topped the Statesmen 86-75 in the second round of the 2014 NCAA tournament at Brockport.
 
GOOD START
  • The Statesmen opened their season Wednesday night with an 85-81 win at St. John Fisher. Hobart made 10 3-pointers and sank nearly twice as many free throws as the home standing Cardinals.
  • The Statesmen seized the lead for good near the 7-minute mark of the first half on back-to-back 3-pointers by junior Pat Healy. He finished the game with five 3-pointers and a game-high 28 points.
  • Junior Aidan Rodgers and first-year Alex Moesch also hit double digits, recording 16 points apiece.
 
FIRST RUN
  • Morrisville State will be playing its season opener. The Mustangs were 11-14 last season and welcome back five players from that squad, including three of their top four scorers.
  • Junior forward Jordan Coard led the team in scoring (14.6), rebounding (8.6) and blocked shots (0.9). Senior guard Shykell Brown and junior guard Brandon Kulakowski added 14.1 ppg and 11.1 ppg, respectively.
  • Morrisville State played an exhibition game at Cornell on Wednesday, falling 107-86. Kulakowski led the Mustangs with 15 points against the Big Red.
