#3 Hobart begins homestand against SUNYAC foes

The third-ranked Hobart College ice hockey team returns to The Cooler this weekend, Nov. 17-18, when it begins a five-game homestand with a pair of non-conference matchups. Tomorrow, the Statesmen host Buffalo State University at 7 p.m. The following afternoon Hobart takes on SUNY Fredonia. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
The Statesmen enter this weekend with an overall record of 4-2-0. This past Friday, Hobart shut out the University of Southern Maine 10-0. Six different Statesmen scored, and goaltender Damon Beaver stopped all 15 shots. Chris Duclair recorded his first career hat trick on his way to earning a spot on the NEHC weekly honor roll. The following day Hobart was edged by Babson 3-1. Luke Aquaro scored for the Statesmen and. Mavrick Goyer made 10 saves.
 
The Bengals are 2-4-0 and the Blue Devils are 2-5-0 after splitting their games against one another this past weekend. On Friday, Buffalo State won 4-1. Four different Bengals scored and Marcus Cumberworth made 32 saves in the win. The following day Fredonia won 4-1. Baxter Kimball scored twice and Charles-Anthony Barbeau made 40 saves. The Blue Devils defeated Morrisville 5-3 on Tuesday to pick up their second win of the season.
 
Fans unable to make it to The Cooler can follow all the action with HWS All-Access video and Live Stats. The games will be broadcast on WHWS-FM.
 
ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Aquaro leads Hobart with six goals and nine points.
  • Duclair also has six goals on the year.
  • First-year Bauer Morrissey has six assists. He is second on the team with eight points.
  • Beaver and Goyer have split time in net for the Statesmen. Beaver has a GAA of 1.00, and a save percentage of .959. Goyer has a GAA of 1.01 and a .929 save percentage. 
 
ABOUT THE BENGALS
  • Aidan LaValley leads the Bengals with seven points. He shares the team lead with Michael McCosh with five assists.
  • Anthony Morin has a team-high three goals and four points.
  • Cumberworth has played the majority of time in goal for the Bengals. He is 2-3-4 with a GAA of 4.88 and a save percentage of .866.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This Friday will be the 39th meeting between the Statesmen and the Bengals.
  • Hobart leads the all time series 26-8-4, including a mark of 16-1-3 in Geneva.
  • Last year, the Statesmen defeated the Bengals 4-3 in overtime. Aquaro scored the game-winning goal. Austin Mourar (1g, 1a) had a multi-point game.
 
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
  • Ethan Pitzman and Ryan Bailey lead Fredonia with four assists each.
  • David Sudbrink leads the Blue Devils with five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Goaltenders Charles-Anthony Barbeau and Logan Dyck have split time in net for the Blue Devils. Barbeau is 2-2-0 with a GAA of 3.75 and a save percentage of .905. Dyck is 0-3-0 with a GAA of 3.01 and a .909 save percentage. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 24th meeting between the Statesmen and the Blue Devils.
  • Fredonia leads the all-time series 12-8-3. The series is deadlocked at 4-4-1 in Geneva.
  • On Jan. 8, 2011, the Blue Devils defeated the Statesmen 5-3 in Fredonia. Tommy Capalbo '11 had a team-high two assists in the loss. Nick Broadwater '13 made 24 saves in goal.
