Hobart-RPI to meet in semifinal showdown on Cozzens Field

The Hobart College soccer team will face off against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Cozzens Field in the semifinal round of the Liberty League Tournament. The Statesmen and Engineers will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3.

A LOOK AT THE BRACKET
  • Hobart (10-5-2) captured the Liberty League regular season championship, earning the top-seed in the tournament and a bye to the semifinals.
  • The No. 5 seed, RPI advanced to the semifinals with a 1-0 triumph at No. 4 St. Lawrence in Tuesday's first round. Brady Van Epps scored in the eighth minute and Colin Such recorded six saves to earn the shutout.
  • Union is the No. 2 seed and also received a bye to the semifinals. Garnet Chargers will host Ithaca.
  • The Bombers, seeded third, defended their home field 2-1 against No. 6 Vassar.
  • The Liberty League Championship match will be played at the highest remaining seed on Sunday, Nov. 5.
 
ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Frederick Madsen is tied for the league lead with a team-high seven goals this season. With 17 points, he's one of just six Liberty League players averaging more than a point per game.
  • Nolan Fierro has been Hobart's primary playmaker with a team-high five assists.
  • Guillermo Castañeda Chang has started 11 straight matches in goal. He has a .776 save percentage, a 1.03 GAA and five shutouts this year.
 
ABOUT THE ENGINEERS
  • RPI comes into the match with a 9-6-2 record.
  • Josh Gaudiano and Brady Van Epps lead the Engineers with seven goals each.
  • Gaudiano leads RPI in assists with five for a team-leading point total of 19.
  • Colin Such mans the goal for the Engineers, logging a .773 save percentage and a 1.19 GAA.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday's match will be the 61st all-time meeting between the teams. RPI leads the series 29-25-6.
  • The home team has won each of the past four contests in the series, including the Engineers' 1-0 victory in Troy on Oct. 13, 2023.
