#2 Hobart concludes homestand against Beacons, Wildcats

The second-ranked Hobart College hockey returns to The Cooler this weekend, Dec. 1-2, as it hosts two New England Hockey Conference foes. Friday at 7 p.m. the Statesmen take on UMass Boston. On Saturday, Hobart will take on Johnson and Wales at 4 p.m.
 
The Statesmen enter this weekend with an overall record of 7-2-0 with a 3-1-0 mark in NEHC play. Last Tuesday, Hobart shut out Brockport 3-0. Ignat Belov netted two goals and an assist, goaltender Damon Beaver stopped all 21 shots. The Statesmen have won three straight games.
 
The Beacons are 4-5-1 overall with a 3-3-0 record in league play. This past weekend UMass Boston split games with Trinity and Wesleyan. They lost to the Bantams 4-3 in overtime and edged the Cardinals 1-0.
 
The Wildcats are 1-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 in NEHC play. JWU is coming off a 7-2 win over Southern Maine on Nov. 18.  
 
Fans unable to make it to The Cooler can follow all the action with HWS All-Access video and Live Stats. The games will be broadcast on WHWS-FM.
 
ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Three Statesmen are tied for the team lead with nine points. Junior Luke Aquaro has six goals and three assists. Sophomore Tanner Hartman has five goals and four assists and Belov has four goals and five assists. 
  • Chris Duclair leads Hobart with eight goals.
  • Three Statesmen have six assists.
  • Beaver has the edge in minutes played in goal for the Statesmen. He has a GAA of 0.60 and a save percentage of .972. He has four shutouts so far this season.
 
ABOUT THE BEACONS
  • Jude Kurtas leads UMass Boston with five goals and seven points.
  • Conor Foley and Devin Moran have five assists and six points each.
  • Goaltender Sam Best has played the majority of time in net for the Beacons. He has a GAA of 3.01 and a save percentage of .897. He has one shutout.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday will be the 18th meeting between the Statesmen and the Beacons.
  • Hobart leads the all-time series 8-6-3, including a 4-2-2 mark in Geneva.
  • In the last meeting, the Statesmen conquered the Beacons 6-1. Damon Beaver made 20 saves. Luke Aquaro had three points on a goal and two assists.
 
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Brendan Doyle leads Johnson and Wales with nine goals and 12 points.
  • Four different Wildcats have five assists.
  • Jaxon Friedman has played the majority of the time in net for the Wildcats. He has a GAA of 3.57 and a save percentage of .905.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the ninth meeting between the Statesmen and the Wildcats.
  • Hobart leads the all-time series 8-0-0, with four wins at The Cooler.
  • In the last meeting, the Statesmen defeated Johnson and Wales 5-1. Jonah Alexander and Tanner Hartman scored two goals apiece.
