#1 Hobart heads to Southern Maine, Babson

The top-ranked Hobart College ice hockey heads east this weekend to compete in a pair of New England Hockey Conference contests. This Friday, Nov. 10, the Statesmen travel to Gorham, Maine, to take on the University of Southern Maine at 7 p.m. Saturday, Hobart will skate against on Babson College. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
The Statesmen are 3-1-0 overall with a 2-0-0 record in conference play after two shutouts this past weekend. On Friday, the Statesmen defeated sixth-ranked Norwich 3-0. Three different players scored a goal and Damon Beaver made 20 saves in the shutout. Saturday Hobart defeated New England College 7-0. Luke Aquaro and Logan Gotinsky each scored a pair of goals and goalie Mavrick Goyer made 15 saves.
 
The Huskies are 1-0-1 overall and the Beavers are 0-3-1 overall. They are both 0-0-1 in the NEHC after skating to a 4-4 tie on Friday. Babson's Wyatt George netted two goals. Southern Maine's goaltender Mason Palmer made 44 saves. The next day, Babson was edged by then No. 8 Plymouth State 6-5 in OT, Brendan Kennedy had two assists. Goaltender Nate Mueller made 17 saves.

  • In the last meeting, the Statesmen shut out the Huskies 3-0. Tanner Daniels and Brenden Howell '23 had a goal and an assist each. Beaver made all 21 saves and had an assist.

  • Egan Schmitt leads the Beavers with four points.
  • Ryan Murphy has a team-high three goals.
  • Brendan Kennedy leads Babson with three assists.
  • Nate Mueller has the edge in minutes played in goal for the Beavers. He has a GAA of 4.61 and a save percentage of .816.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 26th meeting between the Statesmen and the Beavers. 
  • Babson leads the all-time series 11-9-5, including a 7-3-2 record on home ice.
  • On March 4, in the NEHC Championship game, Hobart defeated Babson 5-1. Aquaro scored twice and Jonah Alexander and Shane Shell had two assists each. Beaver made 14 saves.
