William Smith hosts Southern Maine, Salem State this weekend

The William Smith College ice hockey team returns to The Cooler this weekend for a pair of New England Hockey Conference contests. On Friday, Nov 10, the Herons will host Southern Maine at 7 p.m. The following afternoon William Smith will face Salem State at 4 p.m.
 
The Herons enter this weekend with a 2-2-0 record and a 2-0-0 mark in NEHC play. This past weekend William Smith picked up a pair of conference wins on the road. Last Friday, the Herons defeated 13th-ranked Norwich 3-2. Kayla Ketchabaw scored a pair of goals. Annie Hauser made an outstanding 38 saves in the victory. On Saturday, William Smith beat the Pilgrims 6-1, with six different Herons scoring. Annabel Ziskin had a game-high three points (1g, 2a). Erin Murray made 16 saves.
 
The Huskies are also 2-2-0. They open NEHC play this weekend. Southern Maine is coming off a split with Curry College. On Friday, the Huskies shut out Curry 2-0. Goaltender Ellie Fredenburg stopped all 20 shots she faced. The following day, Curry won 8-2. The Vikings are 1-3-0 after a weekend split with Rivier. Friday the Vikings defeated the Raiders 2-1, and Saturday Salem State lost 4-2. On Friday, Salem State will be at Elmira.
 
Fans who can't make the trip to The Cooler can follow all the action with HWS All-Access and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Ketchabaw leads William Smith with four goals.
  • Ziskin leads the team with four assists and six points.
  • Hauser and Murray have split time in goal for the Herons. Hauser has a GAA of 2.02 and a save percentage of .944. Murray has a GAA of 1.51 and a save percentage of .945.

  • Goaltender Ellie Fredenburg has played every minute in net. She has a GAA of 3.25 and a save percentage of .885.

  • This Friday will be the sixth meeting between the Herons and the Huskies.
  • Southern Maine leads the all-time series 3-2-0. The Huskies are 2-0-0 at The Cooler.
  • On Jan. 13, 2023, Southern Maine edged William Smith 2-1. Murray made 25 saves in the Heron goal.

  • Meghan Azzato has scored twice and leads the team with two points.
  • Five different Vikings each have one assist.
  • Kaia Hollingsworth has played the majority of the time in goal for the Vikings. She has a GAA of 2.31 and a save percentage of .923.
