#23 Statesmen sting #13 Yellowjackets 5-4

GENEVA, N.Y.—The 23rd-ranked Hobart College Squash team defeated 13th-ranked University of Rochester in a tightly contested match at the Smith Squash Center this evening.  It was the Statesmen's first victory over the Yellowjackets since 2005.
 
Five of the nine matches were decided by a score of 3-1. Rochester had two 3-0 sweeps and Hobart had one.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • Hobart is 1-3 on the season.
  • With the loss, Rochester falls to 2-2.
 
MATCH MOMENTS
  • Joseph Raskin Lantos gave Hobart a 1-0 lead, defeating Alejandro Porras 11-6, 11-7, 11-3 at No. 5. It was Lantos' second win of the season.
  • Rochester took the match's next two point winning at No. 1 and No. 9 to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Sebi De La Vega tied the contest at 2-2, beating Jake Koeppel, 14-12, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9. With the victory, Sebi De La Vega improved to 2-1 on the season.
  • Javier De La Vega bested Van Inman-Benavente, 11-9, 10-12, 12-10, 15-13, at No. 7. The win tied the match 3-3 and was Javier De La Vega's first win of the year.
  • Dhirren Rajarathinam won his fourth straight match at No. 3. He beat Omar Zakaria, 11-6, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7.
  • Roberto Vega clinched the overall victory for Hobart with a 3-1 victory in the No. 6 spot. He defeated Vandrick Inman-Benavente, 11-8, 4-11, 11-8, 11-9. It was Vega's first win of the season.
  • In the closest match of the day, Luis Moncada edged Omar Kiwan, 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-1, 11-2 at No. 2.

Hobart will be back in action Sunday, Dec. 3, when it heads to Ithaca, New York to take on ninth-ranked Cornell
