Statesmen put unbeaten streak on the line against Express in Tuesday matinee

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team will seek its eighth consecutive win when it welcomes the Wells College Express to Bristol Gym for a rare Tuesday matinee. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 2 p.m. Dec. 19.
 
The game will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM. HWS All-Access video and Live Stats will be available on HWSAthletics.com.
 
Hobart is one of just 17 undefeated teams in NCAA Division III men's basketball. The Statesmen improved to 7-0, the best start in program history, with a 64-59 Liberty League win over RPI on Dec. 9.
 
Wells is in the midst of a six-game slide following an 89-59 loss to Penn State Altoona on Dec. 9. The Express are 1-9 overall.
 
SERIES SNAPSHOT
  • Tuesday's game will be the third all-time meeting between Hobart and Wells.
  • Both previous meetings came during the 2008-09 season.
  • The Statesmen posted a 74-62 win in Bristol Gym on Dec. 6, while the Express earned a 68-65 win in the consolation game of the Regis College tournament a month later.
 
HOBART HIGHLIGHTS
  • Hobart leads the Liberty League in free throw percentage (.734), free throws made per game (16.6, 39th in the nation) and free throws attempted per game (22.6).
  • Three Statesmen are averaging double digits in the scoring column with juniors Carter Meshanic and Aidan Rodgers sharing the lead at 15.1 ppg. Classmate Pat Healy is close behind at 14.6 ppg.
  • Rodgers also paces the team in assists (30) and steals (16).
  • Meshanic leads Hobart in rebounding (8.3 rpg) and blocked shots (7).
 
SCOUTING REPORT
  • Senior Terrance Clayton-Murphy leads the Express, averaging 18.9 ppg. He's among the best free throw shooters in the nation, ranking 16th with a 92.7% success rate.
  • First-year Chase Welch adds 11.5 ppg as well as team-highs in assists (28) and steals (17).
  • Senior Billy McCrae leads Wells on the glass (8.7 rpg) and chips in 11.1 ppg.
 
COACHING CONNECTION
  • Wells Head Coach Joe Wojtylko began his head coaching career at Hobart. As the interim head coach during the 2005-06 season, he led the Statesmen to an 10-7 record and a fifth place finish in the Liberty League.
  • Now in his 15th season with the Express, he has an overall record of 183-210.
