GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team clinched a spot in the six-team Liberty League Tournament with a 67-51 win on Senior Day over Bard College. All five seniors and the team's lone graduate student scored during Hobart's final regular season home game.
Senior
Jackson Meshanic led the way with 30 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Senior
Patrick Walker added 12 points five boards and four assists. Graduate student
Evan Goldberg also grabbed nine rebounds while scoring 2 points. Senior
Andrew Lynch sank a 3-pointer while classmates
Jaylon Washington-Lobdell and
David Corrales Marco each added two points.
Bard put two players in double figures. Tyler Burns had 11 points and five rebounds, while Elliott Harris finished with 10 points.
DON'T LOOK BACK
- The Statesmen scored the first seven points of the game and never relinquished their early lead.
- Meshanic fed a cutting Walker, who dunked to give Hobart a 13-4 lead.
- The Statesmen kept the Raptors at arm's length throughout the first half, but couldn't completely break the game open.
- Meshanic scored the last of his 11 first half points in the waning seconds to give the home team a 33-24 lead.
- Bard inbounded the ball to Azriel Almodovar, who launched a three-quarters of the court shot that beat the buzzer and banked in to trim the Statesmen lead to six.
BREATHING ROOM
- Early in the second half, Hobart used a 7-0 Hobart run to push its lead into double digits where it stayed for the remainder of the contest.
- Meshanic scored all seven points during the run, including a dunk that was assisted by Walker.
- An 11-0 run a few minutes later gave the Statesmen their largest lead of the game, 52-31.
KEY STATS
- Hobart outrebounded Bard 39-27.
- The Statesmen shot 51.1% from the floor for the game, including 56.5% in the second half.
- The Raptors shot just 30.9% from the floor.
ON THE RISE
- Meshanic raised his career points total to 1,339, passing Hobart Hall of Famer Sonny Wilson '55 (1,315 pts) for 13th place.
THE ROAD AHEAD
- The Statesmen will wrap up the regular season on the road, traveling to Vassar and RPI Feb. 17-18. Hobart is tied for third place in the Liberty League standings with the Engineers and Skidmore. The Brewers are one game back in sixth place.
