GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior attackman
Anthony Dattellas opened the 2023 season with a career-high seven goals to lead the Statesmen to a 20-14 win over Canisius in the Poole Family Sports Dome this afternoon. The Statesmen won their season opener for the fifth straight year and improved to 22-1 all-time against the Golden Griffins.
"We had some good energy and really good focus early," Head Coach
Greg Raymond said. "We got the ball to the right people. We shot the ball well, Anthony shot the ball well and we had some good offensive possessions. We got a little bit complacent and started to get a little bit sloppy towards the end, but at the start, I thought we were very focused on our game plan and executed it well."
Hobart had 13 different players record at least one point with Dattellas logging a game-high eight points (7-1). Sophomores
Alex Rosa and
Will Delano each produced three points. Rosa notched his first collegiate hat trick, which included both of the Statesmen's extra-man goals. Delano had two goals and an assist.
Senior goalie
Loukas Sotiropoulos stopped nine of Canisius' 13 shots on goal in the first half and finished the game with 13 saves to earn his first Hobart win.
