HENNIKER, N.H.—William Smith College junior goalie
Annie Hauser made 27 saves as she led the Herons to a 3-0 shutout of New England College in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Lee Clement Arena this afternoon. With the win, the Herons wrapped up the regular season with an 11-12-1 overall record and a 9-8-0 mark in NEHC play.
Seven different skaters recorded a point in the victory for William Smith. Hannah Podvey and Sean D'urso split time in goal for the Pilgrims (4-20-1, 1-16-1).
INSIDE THE GAME
- William Smith finished the contest with a 46-27 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Herons were 1-for-2 on the power play and New England College was 0-for-4 with the extra attacker.
SCORING SUMMARY
- William Smith opened the scoring with just over two minutes remaining in the opening frame. Senior Julianna Gong collected a pass from sophomore Kayla Ketchabaw in the neutral zone, raced down the right wing and wristed a shot past Podvey for her first goal of the season.
- Junior Elizabeth MacMurray gave the Herons a two-goal lead three minutes into the third period. She picked up a loose puck in the slot and wristed a shot past D'urso. Her third goal of the season was assisted by Sydney Lester and Annabel Ziskin. It was a power-play goal.
- Emma Faso rounded out the scoring with 11 seconds remaining in regulation. She snapped a shot from the left faceoff circle off the right goalpost and into the back of the net. Mackenzie O'Neil notched an assist on Faso's fifth goal of the season.
UP NEXT
William Smith locked up the No. 5 seed in the NEHC tournament and will take on No. 4 seed Castleton in the quarterfinals of the NEHC tournament next Saturday, Feb. 18. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Spartan Arena in Rutland, Vermont.
