Statesmen host Brewers in Liberty League Tourney opener

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team earned the No. 3 seed in the Liberty League Tournament and will host No. 6 Vassar College in the first round beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 in Bristol Gymnasium. Admission is free for all fans.
 
The game will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva). Fans can watch the game on HWS All-Access and track the action with Live Stats.
 
This will be the 48th meeting between the Statesmen and Brewers with Hobart holding a 39-8 series lead. It will be the fourth time the teams have squared off in the Liberty League Tournament. Each time, the winner of the Hobart-Vassar game has gone on to win the Liberty League Championship.

SCOUTING THE STATESMEN
  • Hobart is 16-9 overall, 12-6 in the Liberty League.
  • The Statesmen finished a game behind second place St. Lawrence and a game ahead of RPI and Skidmore, who tied for fourth place.
  • Hobart is third in the nation in rebounding margin (+12.6). The Statesmen lead the Liberty League in rebounding (40.9/g) and field goal percentage (.466) and are second in scoring offense (73.3 ppg).
  • Senior forward Jackson Meshanic leads the league in scoring (21.2 ppg) and rebounding (10.5). He is ninth in the nation in field goals made (201), 13th in the nation in double-doubles with 15, 18th in total rebounds and 24th in rebounds per game.
 
SCOUTING THE BREWERS
  • Vassar is 13-12 overall, 9-9 in league play.
  • The Brewers secured the sixth and final spot in the tournament, three games ahead of seventh place Clarkson.
  • Vassar has been outscored this season (-1.6 ppg) but has outrebounded its opposition (+1.5 rpg).
  • Senior guard Avni Mustafaj leads the team in scoring at 14.3 ppg to go with 4.3 rpg and 2.5 apg.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the semifinals to take on second-seeded St. Lawrence (17-7, 13-5). The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 in Canton, New York.
