#2 Statesmen close out regular season against #5 Cadets, Pilgrims

The second-ranked Hobart College hockey will wrap up the 2022-23 regular season this weekend, Feb. 10-11, when it welcomes fifth-ranked Norwich and New England College to The Cooler for a pair of New England Hockey Conference contests.
 
This weekend marks Hobart hockey's annual Alumni Weekend. On Friday, Feb. 10, the Statesmen will host the Cadets at 7 p.m. The alumni game will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10:30 a.m.. At 4 p.m., the current Statesmen will take on New England College followed by a Hobart hockey alumni gathering at Eddie O'Brien's. 
 
Hobart enters the weekend with a 21-2-0 overall record and a 14-2-0 mark in conference play. The Statesmen are first in the NEHC with 42 points and can clinch at least a share of their second-straight regular season title with a win of any kind on Friday night.  Hobart has won four-straight games.
 
Norwich brings a 17-4-2 overall record and a 13-1-2 mark in NEHC play. The Cadets are second in the conference standings with 40 points. Norwich has won four straight games. New England College is 10-12-1 overall with a 7-8-1 mark in conference play. The Pilgrims are seventh in the conference standings.
 
Friday's game against Norwich will be Spirit Night. HWS Student Activities will have giveaways for HWS students at the game with their student IDs.
 
Fans who can't make the trip to The Cooler can follow all the action with HWS All-Access and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Sophomore Luke Aquaro leads the Statesmen with 28 points on 12 goals and 16 assists. He leads the NEHC with 28 points.
  • Junior Jonah Alexander leads the team with 13 goals. He is right behind Aquaro with 27 points.
  • First-year goalie Damon Beaver has the edge in minutes played. He is 11-2-0 with a 1.02 GAA and a .955 save percentage. He was named the NEHC Goaltender of the Week following his sixth shutout of the season against Skidmore.
 
ABOUT THE CADETS
  • Clark Kerner leads Norwich with eight goals and 19 points.
  • Joe Nagle leads the team with 14 assists.
  • Drennen Atherton has played a majority of the minutes in goal. He is 13-3-0 with a 1.32 GAA and a .948 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday will be the 16th meeting between the Statesmen and the Cadets.
  • Norwich leads the all-time series 8-6-1, including a 2-1-1 mark in Geneva.
  • The Cadets won the first meeting this season, 2-1 in Kreitzberg Arena.
 
ABOUT THE PILGRIMS
  • Anthony Cinato leads the Pilgrims with 22 points on 11 goals and 11 assists.
  • Alex LaPlante has a team-high 12 goals.
  • Goalie Andrew Kormos has the slight edge in minutes played for the Pilgrims. He is 7-5-0 and has a GAA of 2.36 and a .940 save percentage. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 13th meeting between the Statesmen and the Pilgrims. 
  • Hobart leads the overall series 9-2-1, with a 6-0-0 mark at the Cooler.
  • The Statesmen have won five straight including a 3-0 victory at Lee Clement Arena earlier this season. Mavrick Goyer made 20 saves as he earned the shutout.
