Maura Smeader made a career-high 13 saves as the sixth-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team rallied from a 7-2 deficit for a 12-9 victory over fifth-ranked Salisbury University. The win was Head Coach
Anne Phillips' 100th of her Heron career.
William Smith (5-0) outscored the Sea Gulls (5-2) 10-2 in the final 31:35 minutes, rallying from a 7-2 deficit. It was William Smith's fourth victory over a nationally-ranked team to start the season. The Herons are 5-0 for the first time since 2009.
Senior
Maddie Montgomery led the way for the Herons with four goals and four points. Fellow senior
Molly Davis had a hat trick and won a team-high five draw controls. Junior
Kate Risley and Smeader shared team-high honors with 2 ground balls each.
Emma Skoglund led Salisbury with four points on two goals and two assists. Miranda Mears and Caroline Knight also had two goals each. Riley Hartman won a game-high seven draw controls. Kaitlyn Hunsinger and Gabby Dorsey split time in goal. They combined for nine saves.

THE START
- William Smith took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the game. Montgomery and Maddie Schleicher scored unassisted goals to start the game.

SALISBURY RUN
- The Sea Gulls scored the game's next six goals to take a 7-2 lead.
- Mears collected a feed from Meridith Price and bounced a shot past Smeader. Thirty-five seconds later, Knight notched her second goal of the game to give Salisbury the lead.
- Mears made it a three-goal run with her second of the game. The goal, 50 seconds into the second quarter, was assisted by Skoglund. Just over a minute later Skoglund scored a goal of her own. Erin Scannell was awarded an assist on the tally.
- With seven minutes remaining in the half, Leah Vilov extended the lead to four goals off a feed from Riley Hartman. Mary Hanzsche made it 7-2 with a woman-up free-position goal.
THE COMEBACK
- Trailing by five, Davis picked up a key draw control for the Herons. After a great offensive possession, she converted a free position attempt to make it 7-3.
- Forty-five seconds later, Montgomery notched her second goal of the day, dodging around a defender and ripping a shot past the Salisbury goalie.
- With 24 seconds remaining in the first half, Davis scored another free position goal to make it 7-5 heading into the break.
- The Herons tied the game three minutes into the third quarter. Allie McGinty made it a one-goal game with a free position goal. The tally extended her point streak to 26 games.
- Montgomery completed her hat trick. It was an unassisted goal.
- Senior Payton McMahon gave William Smith the lead with an unassisted goal with 9:12 remaining in the frame. It was the 101st goal of her career.
- McGinty notched her second free position goal of the game to give William Smith a 9-7 lead.
LATE STAGES
- Hartman scored late in the third quarter and Skoglund opened the fourth quarter with goals for Salisbury to make it 9-9.
- With 11:51 remaining in regulation, first-year Natalie Daniels scored the game-winning goal. It was an unassisted tally.
- Montgomery extended the advantage to two goals with a free position goal with just under nine minutes left.
- Davis iced the game for William Smith. She fired the ball into an empty cage to complete her hat trick.
