Hill hits 1st homer, Yellowjackets sweep Statesmen

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Hobart College first-year Johnny Hill hit a two-run homer, but the University of Rochester swept a doubleheader from the Statesmen today. The Yellowjackets took Game 1 11-0 in seven innings and Game 2 9-3 in seven innings.

GAME 1
  • Rochester, which played in the NCAA tournament last season, pounded out 15 hits, including three  triples, to take the series opener.
  • Designated hitter Colby Cruser and catcher John Moses each collected three hits for the home team.
  • Second baseman Jeremy Sanchez was 2-for-3 with a double for Hobart.
  • Yellowjacket starter Nolan Sparks struck out nine and allowed just four hits in five innings to earn the win.

GAME 2
  • Rochester plated the first run in Game 2, but Hobart tied the game on an RBI ground out by Sanchez in the top of the second.
  • The Yellowjackets took control with a big third inning. UR scored five times with Colton Avera delivering the big blow, a two-run homer that put his team up 6-1.
  • UR tacked on another run in the fourth before Hill came to the plate in the fifth.
  • Following a Nate Garrett single to center, Hill drove a pitch out to right that cleared the wall and trimmed Rochester's lead to 7-3. Hill was 2-for-3 in the game.
