Nate Garrett homered and juniors
Ty Gallagher and
Alex Morse drove in three runs apiece, but St. Lawrence University rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth to win Game 3 of the Liberty League weekend series 12-11.
Garrett blasted his first collegiate home run over the left centerfield wall in the second. Gallagher went 3-for-4 with two double and three RBIs. Morse had a sacrifice fly and a two-run double to account for his three RBI game.
For the Saints, Brett Federico and Stephen Colangelo were both 3-for-5 at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hobart built a 6-1 lead through four and a half innings.
- After SLU scored in the first, Garrett hit his solo shot to tie the game in the second.
- Gallagher gave the Statesmen the lead in the third with an RBI double.
- Gallagher touched off a four-run fifth with a two-run double.
- The Saints' bats came alive in the fifth and sixth, scoring seven runs to take an 8-6 lead.
- Hobart pulled even in the seventh and reclaimed the lead with three runs in the eighth.
- Will Jones gave the Statesmen a 9-8 lead with an RBI single through the left side. Morse delivered his two-run double to stretch the lead to 11-8.
- In the ninth, the Saints used six hits and one Hobart error to earn the walk-off win on Federico's single to right with the bases loaded.
GAME NOTES
- Michael Whiteherse stole two bases. He leads the Liberty League with 23 thefts this season.
- Hobart pounded out 12 hits, marking the third time this season the Statesmen had double digit hits in a game.
- Hobart matched its season-highs for doubles (4) and walks (9).
FOR THE RECORD
- St. Lawrence improved to 7-8 overall, 2-4 in the Liberty League.
- Hobart slipped to 4-14, 1-8.
