Statesmen sweep Saints in regular season finale

GENEVA, N.Y.— No. 16 regionally ranked Hobart College tennis team downed St. Lawrence University 9-0 this morning at the HWS Tennis Center to clinch the No.2 seed heading into the Liberty League Championships next weekend. The Statesmen move to 15-4 overall with a 7-1 mark in conference play, while the Saints fall to 7-8 overall and 3-5 in the Liberty League. 

Hobart took the lead right away, earning all three available doubles points. Senior Jett Wright and junior Sean Pesin defeated Turtledove and Moolman, 8-4, at the No. 1 position to move to 17-9 overall in doubles play and 5-1 in the conference.
 
Senior Harry Lyu and sophomore Troy Steiner beat Hailbronner and Pinto at No. 2, 8-5, while first-year's Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton bested Strandberg and Hill-Edgar, 8-4, at No. 3. Fisher and Staunton are now 16-3 in doubles action this season.
 
Hobart secured the match in singles action by winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Lyu defeated Heilbronner, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot while junior Winter Fagerberg clipped Strandberg, 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 3 spot.

Sophomore Hyat Oyer downed Pinto, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot for his 14th consecutive singles win.
 
Fischer topped Hamilton, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 4 spot, staying undefeated in dual match singles play with 14 consecutive wins. Sophomore Nick Grosso defeated Hill-Edgar, 6-0, 6-0. Grosso is 10-6 overall this season in singles action. 

No. 17 regionally ranked singles player and Liberty League Singles Player of the Week, Pesin, clinched the victory for the Statesmen, beating Turtledove, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 position.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, April 29, when it travels to Ithaca, New York, for the Liberty League Championships.
