HORSEHEADS, N.Y.—The Hobart College baseball team pounded out a season-high 20 hits and scored a season-high 20 runs in doubling up Elmira College in a non-conference game at the Holding Point Recreation Complex this afternoon. First-year
Will Jones led the hit parade with three, including a triple, and a game-high six RBIs.
Jones was 3-for-4 on the day. His triple came with the bases loaded in the eight-run fifth inning. First-year
Isaiah Pinto was 2-for-4, including a third inning grand slam, his first home run of the season. First-year
Christian Petry also had a big day. He went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks, three RBIs and a game-high four runs scored.
Hobart used six pitchers in the game.
Aaron Forgues threw two and a third innings, struck out four, allowed just two hits and was credited with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen grabbed the lead in the top of the first and never looked back. With runners on second and third, Jones delivered his first hit, a single to center that scored junior Ty Gallagher.
- Pinto's homer made it 5-0, but the Pioneers answered with three in the bottom half of the inning.
- Hobart kept its foot on the gas in the fourth, scoring five more, including two-RBI hits by Petry and Jones.
- The eight-run fifth put the game out of reach.
GAME NOTES
- The 20 runs are the most in a game by Hobart since May 4, 1992, when the Statesmen defeated Hartwick 22-7.
- Twelve Statesmen recorded at least one hit.
- Hobart improved to 3-12 on the season. Elmira slipped to 3-16.
GIVE ME LIBERTY
- The Statesmen will return to Liberty League play with a three-game series at St. Lawrence (5-7, 0-3). Game 1 is set to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8.
